Abstract

|
|
Burning mouth syndrome(BMS) is one of the most common oral mucosal pain disorders reported by the aged population. The number of patients visiting dental clinics for oral burning pain and its related conditions is rapidly increasing with advent of aged society. However, scientific information regarding etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of BMS is still lacking. Recently, two updated review papers about BMS have been published and possible neurobiological background of BMS has been reported. In this presentation, the etiology, signs and symptoms, and diagnostic procedures for BMS are summarized. In addition, various treatment strategies for BMS are discussed.
